Greetings fellow Freehanders!
I've been through the forums & google etc, and haven't found the answers, so I'm asking here for your help & input for my file conversion project. Thanks in advance!
I have files in FH3.1 (Maybe as late as 4.0?) From 1994 through 1997. Dozens of them. On floppies.
Currently I have a MacBook Pro R running OS 10.8.5.
I have Adobe CS5 installed.
I bought a Sabrent USB Floppy drive which works to get the documents from the floppies to the MBP harddrive. Here's where I'm stuck:
I need to figure out how to open the files to convert them into something that can be read, and hopefully ultimately worked with.
When I check the info for the files, they say they're “Adobe Illustrator CS5” files, but they cannot be opened by Illustrator CS5. Not sure how they got the CS5 designation, but I cannot tell the original file extension. When I put the floppy in, that's how it shows up before the files are even transferred to the MBPR harddrive.
I've read about installing FH8 or 9 to open the originals and convert them... but I cannot find this version, AND if I could, will it work with my OS?
What is the best way to make this happen? (I'd also be happy if I could find a way to use a more recent version of FH on this computer vs using AI.)
I'd be grateful for any suggestions/advice/direction! Thank you!
